Creativity from Scraps!

We have talked about before about what motivation + imagination can produce. Today's post is another example of what you can achieve with little to zero resources. This is the story of Kelvin, a 16 year old from a poor community in Sierra Leone in Africa that  astonished scientist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the M.I.T. He learned engineering from the scraps he found around in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. He built from scratch a battery to light the nights without electricity. “The lights will come on once in a week, and the rest of the month, dark,” Kelvin said. “So, I made my own battery to power lights in people’s houses.” After that, he built an electric generator, a small broadcasting radio station and his music station, now he is known as DJ Focus. "They call me DJ Focus because I believe if you focus, you can do an invention perfectly". And the most incredible thing, he did it by himself, he learned by doing, nobody taught him. Hemos hablando antes acerca de la motivación + imaginación y lo que se puede lograr. Hoy tenemos otro ejemplo de lo que se puede hacer con muy pocos recursos. Esta es la historia de Kelvin que con 16 años y procedente de Sierra Leona en África dejó asombrados a científicos del Instituto de Tecnología de Massachusetts, el M.I.T. Él aprendió ingeniería con las piezas rotas que encontró en Feetown, la capital de Sierra Leona. Contrunyó desde cero baterías para il;uminar las noches oscuras sin electricidad. "La luz viene una vez a la semana, y el resto del mes está oscuro", dijo Kelvin. "Entonces hice my propia batería para encender luces en las casas de las personas". Después de ello construyó un generador eléctrico, una pequeña estación de radio y su equipo de música, ahora es conocido como DJ Enfoque. "Ellos me llman DJ Enfoque porque creo que si te enfocas, puedes crear un invento perfectamente". Y lo más increíble fue que lo hizo todo por sí mismo, nadie le enseñó, aprendió haciéndolo. Imagination

There are times when we complain about low budget when planning gifts. We usually think the more sophisticated the gift, the better. That is why electronic gadgets always come first to mind, followed by electronics, robotics, etc. Yet, we always complain about the lack of imagination an creativity. Today's post is about the opposite, necessity is the mother of invention, and how are things created when there is no budget. Actually, it is more like a continuation of the Caine's Arcade post. I stumble upon a wonderful post from a blogger of  "El País" Newspaper in Spain, about the marvelous African toys. This shows how from Trash to Treasure is a reality, and how the imagination reaches new levels. What is trash for most of us, is source of resources and creativity. El post de hoy tiene que ver con lo contrario, sobre como la necesidad es la madre de la invención, y sobre como maravillas se pueden crear sin presupuesto. Antes, este parece ser una continuación de un post anterior acerca de las máquinas de Caine. Encontré un post espectacular de un blogger del periódico El País de España acerca de los maravillosos juguetes africanos. Este muestra como lo que es basura para algunos, se transforma en obras de arte, muestra de la creatividad. Translating from the post, one of the best toy collections of African toys can be found in Spain, in a public school in A Capela. Over there, there is a small collection of 193 toys from 26 African countries donated by Javier Lago, founder of an African travel agency, after traveling for more than 20 years through the continent.	Resumiendo un poco ese post, una de las mejores colecciones de juguetes africanos se encuentra en España es una escuela pública en A Capela. Allí existe una pequeña colleción de 193 juguetes que representan 26 países. Esta colleción ha sido donada por Javier Lago, fundador de una agencia de viajes aficana, en sus más de 20 años viajando a través del continente.
