Creativity from Scraps!

We have talked about before about what motivation + imagination can produce. Today's post is another example of what you can achieve with little to zero resources.

This is the story of Kelvin, a 16 year old from a poor community in Sierra Leone in Africa that  astonished scientist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the M.I.T.

He learned engineering from the scraps he found around in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. He built from scratch a battery to light the nights without electricity. “The lights will come on once in a week, and the rest of the month, dark,” Kelvin said. “So, I made my own battery to power lights in people’s houses.”

After that, he built an electric generator, a small broadcasting radio station and his music station, now he is known as DJ Focus. "They call me DJ Focus because I believe if you focus, you can do an invention perfectly".

And the most incredible thing, he did it by himself, he learned by doing, nobody taught him.

Watch the video to know the rest of the story.

Hispabrick Magazine 20!

We are on the news, again! Check our latest article about programming with Scratch for the LEGO WeDo set.

We are  still collaborating with HispaBrick Magazine. HispaBrick is a news magazine about LEGO products and the LEGO world. HispaBricks started in 2008 as a Spanish language magazine, but it grow up so much, that right now there is also an English language version!

Take a look at the different issues, there are incredible articles, marvelous designs, fantastic interviews, brilliant tutorials and more. You can find information about the traditional LEGO bricks, the always surprising LEGO Technic, the creative Mindstorms, and now the mighty WeDo. There are books and new sets reviews as well.  I sincerely believe that there is enough interesting material all over the place to make everybody happy.

In this edition, there is an interview of the Chilean LEGO group, Chile LUG (LEGO Users Group).  Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOL) have organizations all over the world, not just for kids! So, if you have a organized LEGO community in your city or country, you could be in the next issue of the magazine. It would be wonderful if LEGO WeDo groups and/or activities could be in there as well. So, keep building.

You can view the magazines online, download them for free, or purchase a printed copy. Check them out, you will never know what hidden gem you could find hidden in those pages.

A seguir construyendo.
