Monowheel, revisited

More than 50,000 views in almost a year! This requires a special post! This time we have the instructions for a people’s favorite, the Monowheel. Remember, this one uses the Activity Pack (the 300+ extra bricks). You will need a second WeDo set and additional pieces (mostly axles). You can improvise a bit for new designs. We are also designing one that can built using only the WeDo base kit, so keep tuned. Problems: Users have been reporting problems when opening the pictures. You may try opening the link in a new window (right click) to see if that solves the problem. At the same time Google seems to be changing from Picasa (we have the photos there) to Google+, so there are times when the albums hosted in Picasa don’t open (500 Error). There is a workaround if you are faced with this. You either need to log out of your Google related account (if Google is the provider of your email) or you need to open the link in a private or incognito window. Enjoy!

Más de 50.000 visitas en casi un año! Esto requiere una nota especial! Esta vez tenemos las instrucciones de uno de los favoritos de la gente, la Monorueda. Este modelo usa el kit extra (Activity Pack que tiene más de 300 ladrillos extra). Puedes usar un segundo kit de WeDo pero harán falta piezas (ejes extra). También puedes improvisar para nuevos diseños. También estamos diseñando un que puede ser construido con el kit básico, estén pendientes. Problemas: Usuarios han reportado problemas abriendo las fotos. Pueden intentar abrir los enlaces en una nueva ventana (segundo botón del mouse) para ver si eso lo resuelve. Google también parece que está cambiando de Picasa (donde tenemos las fotos) a Google+, eso genera que a veces los álbumes de Picasa no abren (error 500). Hay una alternativa para evitar esto. Puedes salir de la cuenta relacionada con Google (si Google es el proveedor del email) o puedes abrir el enlace en una ventana privada o incógnito en el navegador. Disfruten!

We have fans from Spain, again! This time is from "Academia de Nuevas Tecnologías" in Leon. We see modifications of the bulldozer and Moby Dick designs, neat!	Tenemos fans desde España, otra vez! Esta vez es de la Academia de Nuevas Tecnologías en León. Vemos modificciones de los diseño del bulldozer (buldócer o pala mecánica) y la ballena Moby Dick,  interesante!

WeDo Software: Description

LEGO has available software for the WeDo set. The WeDo Software can be purchased from $89.95 separately or bundled with the set for $198.95 in the US. You can check local prices since a discount could be offered. The software is really intuitive to use, the image below shows what you can find. The bottom part contains the programming icons. The upper part has PC connections, additional menus and file operations. If there is nothing connected to the PC, the screen must look similar to the one below.	LEGO tiene disponible software para el set de WeDo. El software de WeDo puede ser comprado por $89.95 (separado) o por $198.95 (cuando se compra junto al kit) en los EEUU. Puedes revisar precios en tu país ya que a veces existen descuentos. El software es bastante intuitivo de usar, la imagen de abajo muestra lo que puedes encontrar. La parte de abajo contiene los íconos de programación mientras que la parte superior tiene las conexiones a la PC, menús adicionales y operaciones de archivos. Si no hay nada conectado a la PC, la pantalla debería lucir muy parecido a la de abajo.

If you have the USB hub connected, you’ll see an icon for it on the top left corner (see below image). If you connect the motor to the hub, you’ll see another icon for the motor (below right image). If your PC has a microphone, you will also see an icon for it.	Si tienes el hub USB conectado, observarás un ícono en la esquina superior izquierda (ver imagen de abajo a la izquierda). Si conectas el motor al hub USB, observarás  otro ícono (ver imagen de abajo). Si la PC tiene un micrófono, observarás también un ícono.

If you click the top left yellow brick, you will find to hidden menus: Getting Started (behind the grey gear icon, the spiky circle) and the Activities (behind the yellow face icon). Check below images. The Getting Started menu will introduce you to the basics of how everything works. You’ll find connections and programming instructions to see what happens. If unsure, click the question mark on the bottom right corner to learn more about each function. The Activities menu has the instructions to assemble and to program the 12 robots included with the software. There are 4 different themes: Amazing Mechanisms (dancing birds, smart spinner and drumming monkey), Wild Animals (hungry alligator, roaring lion and flying bird), Play Soccer (goal kicker, goal keeper and cheerful fans), Adventure Stories (airplane rescue, giant escape and sailboat storm)	Si haces clic en la parte superior izquierda sobre el ladrillo Amarillo encontrarás dos menús escondidos: Inicio Básico (Getting Started, bajo el ícono del engranaje gris) y el de Actividades (debajo del ícono de la cara amarilla). Ver las imágenes de abajo. El Menú Básico introduce las nociones sobre cómo funciona cada cosa. Encontrarás instrucciones de conexiones y de programación para entenderlo. En caso de dudas, clic en el signo de interrogación en la esquina inferior izquierda para aprender más acerca de cada función. El menú de Actividades tiene instrucciones para ensamblar y programas los 12 robots incluidos con el software. Hay 4 temas diferentes: Mecanismos Asombrosos (pájaros bailarines, peonza/trompo inteligente y mono tamborilero), Animales Salvajes (caimán hambriento, león rugiente y pájaro volador), Juego de Fútbol (Tirador, Portero y Animadores) y Cuentos de Aventura (rescate en el avión, huida del gigante y tormenta en el velero).

HispaBrick Magazine, Again!

We are on the news, again! We have been collaborating once more with HispaBrick Magazine. HispaBricks is a news magazine about LEGO products and the LEGO world. HispaBricks started in 2008 as a Spanish language magazine, but it grow up so much, that right now there is also an English language version! Take a look at the different issues, there are incredible articles, marvelous designs, fantastic interviews, brilliant tutorials and more. You can find information about the traditional LEGO bricks, the always surprising LEGO Technic, the creative Mindstorms, and now the mighty WeDo. I sincerely believe that there is enough interesting material to make everybody happy. You can view the magazines online, download them for free, or purchase a printed copy. Salimos en las noticias, otra vez! Estuvimos nuevamente colaborando con la Revista HispaBrick. Hispabricks es una revista acerca de los productos de LEGO y el mundo de LEGO. HispaBricks inició en el 2008 como una revista en español, pero creció tanto que ahora también hay una versión en inglés. Ojeen las diferentes ediciones, tienen increíbles artículos, diseño maravillosos, entrevistas fantásticas, tutoriales brillantes y más. Puedes encontrar información acerca de los bloques tradicionales de LEGO, el siempre sorprendente LEGO Technic, el creativo Mindstorms, y ahora el poderoso WeDo.
